SMART Board™ Interactive Whiteboard Wins Prestigious Comenius Medal in Germany
Award presentation marks the first time a hardware product has won the Comenius Medal
Bonn, Germany --- July 14, 2003 --- SMART Technologies Inc. has won the 2003 Comenius Medal for the SMART Board interactive whiteboard. This is the first time a hardware product has ever won this award. The medal was presented at a recent ceremony held by the Society for Pedagogy and Information (SPI) in Berlin, Germany. The SPI is a scientific specialist society for multimedia, media-didactics and educational technology.
The outstanding educational concept, powerful software and ease of use of the SMART Board interactive whiteboard were just some of the features that medal judges noted. The Comenius Medal judges are a panel of experts from universities and other educational institutions across Europe.

The Comenius Medal is named after Jan Amos Comenius (1592-1670), the father of modern education. Comenius believed in what might today be called a holistic concept of education. He pioneered many modern education methods, including the use of illustrated textbooks. A contemporary of Galileo, Descartes, Rembrandt and Milton, Comenius contributed greatly to the Enlightenment.
